What OunceDesk is
OunceDesk is an independent precious-metals intelligence platform. We combine four things that usually live on separate websites: original research (bottom-up market models, published with their evidence), market data (live prices, proprietary stress signals, and a growing archive of our own observations), tools (calculators and references built on tested financial math), and coin intelligence(specifications, valuations, series guides and collecting references for US coinage).
We are not a dealer. We don't sell metal, we don't hold your money, and we don't publish sponsored conclusions.
What we cover
Markets: gold, silver, platinum, palladium and the physical-market plumbing behind them — inventories, premiums, lease conditions, supply and demand. Research: flagship analyses like The Silver Bottleneck, built from models we publish and stress-test in public. Coins: reference-grade guides to US coinage, from melt values to series histories and key dates. Tools: the calculators we wanted to exist — junk silver, melt values, conversions, ratios.
How we work
Every important figure we publish carries an evidence class: OBSERVED (directly reported by a primary source), DERIVED (calculated from observed values, arithmetic shown), ESTIMATED (defensible assumptions, stated), or SPECULATIVE (scenario assumptions, flagged). If ten articles quote the same original estimate, that is one source, not ten. Our models publish their assumptions and their falsifiers — we tell you what would prove us wrong. Full detail lives in the methodology center, including how our market indices, melt calculations and premium measurements work.
We are equally strict about what we don't show: no invented dealer prices, no fabricated price-guide values, no indices published before their methodology is defensible. Where data doesn't exist yet, we say so.
How we make money
Some links on OunceDesk are affiliate links: if you follow one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. That is currently the business model, and it is governed by one rule: affiliate economics never determine research conclusions, evidence classifications, dealer rankings, premium calculations or market signals. Rankings in our comparison products are set by measured premium, never by payout. The full policy is in our affiliate disclosure.
